About Us
Washington welcomes families into a community of diverse learners where expectations are high and teaching and learning are reciprocal. Washington encourages community and family involvement through engaging programs such as the annual Math Family Fun and Field Day, Giving Thanks for Literacy Dinner, Neighborhood Read, Reading and Math Strategies Luncheons, and Literacy Night- Career Fair just to name a few.
Washington Writers' Academy offers full-day PEEP (Great Start Readiness Program for four year olds) and kindergarten classrooms that provide students with the foundational skills they’ll need to be successful in school.
Additionally, Washington partners with community agencies such as Communities In Schools of Kalamazoo (providing vision, hearing screening and daily assistance with basic needs and the 21st Century after-school program), Loaves & Fishes (sponsoring our food pantry, open to all Washington families), Western Michigan University (offering free individual and group counseling to students), and weekly mentoring provided by staff and a number of community members and agencies.
Vision Statement
Washington Writers' Academy is a fully functioning Professional Learning Community that ensures high student achievement for all.
